Jimmy’s No. 43
A hostess warmly greeted us upon arrival, offering the extensive beer menu to inspect, and we had a choice between bar or booth. Located underground, Jimmy’s has not stayed under the radar – it is packed most nights. According to the waitress who served us our beers, Jimmy took over this hundred-year-old former Ukrainian banquet hall, added some tables, and “threw up a few mirrors on the wall,” and he was off and running. One of our companions, a regular in the East Village on weekend nights, commented “this is a welcome change” from the average dive bar. With a “seasonal greenmarket menu” offering tasty plates to accompany their rotating selection of drinks on tap, Jimmy’s also offers special beer tasting nights and lectures, so check out their website for listings.
