More than just a hair salon and blow-out bar, REDD Salon - which opened in August 2015 - is perhaps the biggest step on owner Angel DeCarolis’ journey in the hair styling industry. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Angel came to New York in 1993 and started working at the Avalon salon, where he first swept the floors. As the years went by, he became a hairstylist and later the manager. Then, when the Avalon Salon was put up for sale, Angel bought the business and reshaped it according to his vision. If there was ever a clear “working your way up” story, this would be it.
In addition, the name of the salon is actually the initials of his deceased mother, making REDD Salon a commemoration to her. In addition to offering very reasonably priced hair-cutting packages, Angel has created the “REDD on the Road” program, where a hairstylist cuts your hair in your own home (Angel calls it “mobile hairstyling”) and the “REDD Wedding” program, especially designed for brides and grooms. Despite the clear reference to the infamous “Red Wedding” scene of the HBO show “Game of Thrones”, Angel swears that he did not watch the show at all before coining that name. We still do not know if we should believe him.
