Couture du Jour
Peddling vintage clothing and accessories for women, Couture du Jour combines a sharp eye for style with a rejection of traditional fashion mores. Costumers from nearby theaters mine the inventory for flashy inspiration, as do tourists and everyday shoppers. Now well established, the store relies mostly on folks bringing in their vintage garments for resale, and the mountains that come to Muhammad make for quite the diverse inventory. Owner Christine Fellows, a long-time New Yorker with a background in music is a fantastic and opinionated raconteur. She regaled us with yarns of times past in the city, and chronicled the changing environment she found herself in. Rarely have we discovered such a marvelous combination of quality goods and New York fervor.
