Anthony and Annette Magana's have been selling “a little bit of everything - new stuff and old stuff” for over thirty years. As one can imagine, they have become known in the area, having also lived above their shop while raising their family. One day, while I was chatting with Annette, an elderly woman stopped by to say hello and to bring Annette the "end of the papers" with that day's food sales, and in exchange she received Annette's copy of the Clinton Chronicle that she had finished reading. Witnessing this trade, I engaged the two in conversation where they laughed and shared stories of how their friendship evolved. Then they began reminiscing about the time when the street was "full of druggies." On a nearby stoop, drug deals would be made through a tiny slot in the door. You would “stick money in the hole, and drugs came out the other end.” But regardless, they stayed on this street as their home and livelihood was here.
