Chartwell, located inside an elegant commercial building, is proud to call itself the world’s only independent bookstore dedicated to the life and work of Winston Churchill. The shop, which is named after Churchill’s home in Kent, England, stocks rare first editions written by Churchill, autographed or signed documents, books on the former prime minister, associated memorabilia, and an assortment of other titles unrelated to the politician.

Churchill was a prolific writer, with over forty published works to his name, and he has inspired more than 800 books about him. Each of these has at some point found their way onto Chartwell’s shelves, according to the shop’s owner, Barry Singer. Barry himself has penned a number of books on Churchill.

Despite its name, Chartwell did not start as an homage to all things Churchill. It was only after a high-profile client asked the shop to track down first editions of all of Churchill’s writings that Barry was inspired to narrow his focus onto the historical figure. Since then, Barry has carved a thriving career out of catering to casual perusers, admires, and collectors alike.
