The Millennium Film Work Shop – LOST GEM
119 Ingraham St, Brooklyn, NY
Established in the 1960’s, Millennium has long been dedicated to the independent filmmaker. They began as one of the many art workshops initiated by St. Marks Church and the New School back when the East Village was fraught with cultural dissension. When Millennium was more established and became an independent organization, they once occupied the space that now houses Anthology Film Archive, which reminds us that the buildings in this area have such a rich history. Today, La Mama owns the building that Millennium Film Workshop has rented since 1974. With the emphasis placed on experimental film, an assortment of opportunities are offered to people in the industry including screenings, workshops and lively discussions on cinema – both past and present. The Millennium Film Journal, another production of the film collective, is the longest-running avant-garde, independent and experimental film journal in existence.
