Paws in Chelsea
8am-8pm Everyday

The front room at Paws houses cubbies marked with photos of the regular pups whose belongings they hold, reminding us of a cheerful kindergarten classroom. And yet further in, at this “social club” for pets, it seems that the animals frolic and mingle like excited twenty-somethings at a bar. Sherry Field, a pioneer in the pet world, opened Paws in Chelsea as the very first cageless pet daycare in New York City. Here, the animals are not constricted to isolated cages, but spend their time socializing and playing with their own kind. The space also functions as an overnight animal hotel, as well as an adoption center and groomery. September 2013 marked twenty years since Sherry opened her doors to people and their pets looking for a different kind of care. And she is marking this occasion by having written a book, Twenty Years of Paws, celebrating her experiences.
