The Union League Club
Committed to respecting and preserving our nation’s history, the Union League is a private club that has had more than a dozen U.S. presidents as members, including Teddy Roosevelt. A New York landmark, the club has resided at this address since 1931. Its founding members, however, were involved in many historic events during the latter part of the 19th century. Two that particularly stood out for me were their involvement in the establishment of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1870 and the mounting of the Statue of Liberty a decade later. The interior space is exceptional with paintings on their walls that date back to the Civil War. 2013 marked the Union League’s 150th anniversary and in November of 2014, they will have a special celebration as this was the date “when it brought Thanksgiving to the entire Union army.”
