Financier Patisserie was named for its Wall Street roots – having opened their first cafe in the Financial District – however nothing about this pastry shop feels corporate. On the contrary, it is small, welcoming, and with excellent coffee and food, it seems far more like a local coffee house than a chain. Located on the corner of 54th Street and First Avenue, Financier has lime green walls and expansive windows for gazing outside, or a larger back room allowing for more privacy. The highlight of the place is indubitably its glass display case, which contains delectable sweets of every size, shape and color imaginable.
Financier also serves soups, salads, quiche, and croques monsieur, along with plenty of excellent coffee drinks made from beans roasted in Brooklyn. A welcome quirk, and the other reason for the cafe’s name: when customers purchase a coffee, they receive a miniature French almond pastry in the shape of a gold bar, also known as a financier.
