Terri is located right next to the New York Health and Racquet Club, with an adjoining door, which is convenient: The Manhattan Sideways team agreed that the fresh produce-filled vegetarian food at Terri is perfect post-workout fare. With a location in the Financial District and a third location opening in Midtown on Third Avenue, Terri is already expanding, and we soon experienced why the brand has become an immediate success.
The manager, Rosa, greeted us and pointed out the dishes for which Terri is best known. We tried the most popular order, the Buffalo “Chicken” sandwich, made with generous slices of fresh tomato and grilled to perfection. We were impressed with the size of the vegetable servings in each dish: the Kale Superfood Salad similarly had an entire half of an avocado. Despite the fact that everything was meatless, it was still filling, but without being heavy.
Rosa guided us to the juice section, where rows of colorful fruit juices gleamed behind the glass. We learned that Terri also offers a juice cleanse, complete with six cold-pressed, superfood-filled flavors. After Rosa showed us the desserts, where we came face to face with a chocolate peanut butter and jelly cupcake, she told us where the name “Terri” comes from: The co-founders, Craig Cochran and Michael Pease, both have mothers named “Terri." It seemed very appropriate that an eatery aimed at helping people take care of their bodies should be named after a pair of mothers.
