RPZL, which takes its abbreviated name from the Disney princess with enviably long hair, looks like a cross between an Apple Store and a beauty salon. The interiors are a glossy, minimalist white and silver, with plush white chairs and gleaming white countertops. iPads sit at each seat, so customers can browse through different looks, select songs from the virtual jukebox, order drinks and cupcakes, or complete transactions. The reception desk doubles as a DJ booth for special events, and a unique selfie booth allows customers to take pictures of their new looks and upload them online as a #RPZLfie. This is a hair salon for the hi-tech, cutting-edge world of today, and, rather appropriately, it is located on “Ladies’ Mile," in the heart of New York’s booming “Silicon Alley."
Started in 2015 by human rights lawyer Monica Thornton and successful entrepreneur Lisa Richards, RPZL uses state-of-the-art technology to offer convenient, affordable, and high-quality hair styling. Hair extensions are their specialty: RPZL's hair extension bar offers “same day service," i.e. they can match color and attach extensions, made using 100% Virgin Remy hair, in the same appointment. A whole range of colors are available on-site – Carlos, a stylist, proudly declared, “There is not a color we can’t match.”
Though RPZL offers traditional clip-in and adhesive hair extensions, their hi-tech keratin extensions are their coolest and most innovative offering. This service fuses strips of hair to the client’s natural locks using an ultrasound-based keratin bonding process that removes the need for the bane of hair-styling: heat. RPZL can give customers a whole head of keratin-bonded extensions in an hour - and they last for a long time and look natural. For anyone who has always wanted Rapunzel’s famed hair, RPZL can make it happen!
