In 1995, two guys approached an elderly woman who had owned a beauty salon for quite some time and offered to take over her space. She agreed, upon learning that her 1930s décor would remain. To this day, Beauty Bar has stayed true to its original character. Hair dryers from the 1950s and 1960s and barbershop chairs line the walls. Even manicures are offered nightly, but the rest is all about being a bar. And there is a back room where they have comedy nights, burlesque shows and DJs with dancing. The owners described the mix of people who frequent the bar as everyone from tourists to neighborhood regulars, gay to straight, and cross dressers to guys in business suits. In short, everyone.
