Named after the Grateful Dead album, American Beauty is not only a bar but also an established concert venue. As James, the talent buyer, explained, American Beauty has a laid-back, Colorado vibe.
The space is equipped with billiards and a foosball table. The happy hour at American Beauty is well-known, thanks to the wide assortment of craft beer, as well as the pizza special: With the purchase of every drink, each customer is promised a free slice of pizza, so it is no surprise that American Beauty attracts a crowd of young professionals from the area. When I asked James about the neighborhood, he remarked that it has been changing recently. “People are coming back this way,” he explained. This area in Midtown Manhattan is becoming more of a music hub.
Owned by the same people who run Webster Hall, American Beauty is best known for the concert venue located in the back of the space. Every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday the bar hosts free shows. On weekends, they tend to showcase bigger artists who are often in the middle of tours across the country. American Beauty brings performers from a host of genres, including (but not limited to) Americana, rock, country, indie and funk.
