On a weekend in early April, I found several dedicated people hard at work sprucing up Albert’s Garden after the winter. I was able to strike up a conversation with them and learned that they have been devoting their energy and love to this land since the early 1970′s when their efforts transformed the space from a basketball court to a community gathering place. The initial vision, to which they continue to stay true, is to keep a “semi wild feeling – somewhat unnatural.” They have made a great effort to allow visitors to see through the gates from the street all the way to the back. They want people to “have a feeling of a vista,” though it is clear that there is much more detail to be appreciated.
