The Alchemist’s Kitchen – LOST GEM
21 East 1st StreetNew York, NY 10003
With a whole plant tonic bar, an on-the-premises herbalist, and an abundance of medicinal organic herbs and botanical-based beauty products, The Alchemist’s Kitchen has taken plant-powered to a whole new level. Ken Jordan, Lou Sagar, and Stephanie Wang Walter founded the botanical dispensary in 2016 as the flagship location for the conscious lifestyle company, Evolver.
Stopping in one day to refuel, I could not help but inquire about the state-changing elixirs. An amalgamation of science and indigenous tradition, each drink has its own special properties. “The joy juice,” the manager informed me, “contains two mood elevators and one energy booster.” The kombucha is mixed with kava, a plant-based muscle relaxant, and the botanical crafted coffees combine the well-known, natural pick-me-up with herbal stimulants.
In addition to the non-alcoholic, feel-good drinks and Chef Tilo Fola’s vegan, gluten-free menu, what sets the Alchemist’s Kitchen apart are its socially conscious living events. Friday happy hours with botanical elixirs, medicinal edible how-to’s, energized discussions with guest speakers, and rejuvenating meditation sessions are just a few of the many activities that are hosted with the help of a downstairs event space.
