James Graham & Sons

Now under guidance of its fifth generation, James Graham & Sons is the oldest family-owned gallery in New York (and one of the oldest in the United States), dating back to 1857. Starting out in lower Manhattan and making its way uptown, the gallery settled on 67th Street in 2007, attracting interest with its ground floor window display. Through history and growth, the gallery has been able to feature an array of artwork ranging from traditional nineteenth and twentieth century French and American sculptures to contemporary paintings. “It can be representational or abstract; I see something I like and it stirs something inside of me,” explained Gallery Director Cameron Shay, who had come to New York to be in the capital of art. The gallery offers not one slice of art, but a wide diversity to appreciate. “Antique, modern, contemporary – it all works as long as it is done tastefully,” he shared. The transition from the modern room to the traditional room to the sculpture showroom is effortless and cohesive, yet refreshingly nuanced.
