I met Jack Jakub, the president of Apple Parking, standing on the ramp of his West Village garage and body shop. I’d been working all morning and Jack approached me smiling, asking me if I needed anything. It turns out that this underground garage tucked away beside the Hudson can boast clients such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Julianne Moore, and Kiefer Sutherland. Mr. Jakub gets to know everyone around here, taking the time to stroll around the block when not overseeing hand car washes and auto detailing. He suggested a local café and told me that the West Village calms people down. “99% of the time the people are friendly here, ” and how could they not be? With the quiet and the distance from the Avenues it seems that Mr. Jakub and his business embody this laid back outlook on life.
