Quietly tucked between a playground and an apartment building, standing somewhat alone on this stretch of 32nd, I discovered a beautiful Baroque-style building. Upon closer observation, I was amazed to see that this is the “home” of the famed Milton Glaser. After graduating from Cooper Union College in 1948, studying for a period in Italy, and then returning to New York, it is at this address that he began his graphic design career. I took a chance and phoned his office and asked if the Manhattan Sideways team might have the pleasure of interviewing and filming the man who began New York Magazine and is the creator of the iconic I Love (heart) New York logo. A New York icon for over six decades, Mr. Glaser is one of the most elegant and articulate men that I have ever met. It was an honor to be in his presence and to have him share his stories and passion for our city.
