Longacre Theatre
Established: 1913
Longacre Theatre, evoking the former name for Times Square, was built in 1913 by Harry Frazee, future owner of the Boston Red Sox, who sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees. Because of Boston’s “Curse of the Bambino,” producers avoided the Longacre Theatre for years, worrying about the repercussions of the superstition. Nonetheless, this neo-classical building has had many success stories over the past century.
