Celebrating Macaron Day!
As we have noted in our French Sideways Story, France and New York have always had a close bond. Nothing makes this clearer than the food: New Yorkers are known to have a soft spot for French cuisine, especially desserts.
Over the past few years in particular, macarons have gained a strong American following. The small, round almond flour-based sandwich cookies are nothing like the coconut-based American macaroons. Crisp on the outside and delicately chewy on the inside, the treats often come in a dazzling array of colors and flavors, from simple strawberry to champagne and lychee. With their bright hues and range of flavors, macarons are a dessert craze we fully support…and they make excellent gifts.
In honor of Macaron Day (March 20th), we have compiled a list of some of the best places to pick up one of these delectable treats on Manhattan’s side streets. Éclair Bakery and Macaron Café often offer free macarons to celebrate the holiday!
